In this young adult sci-fi fantasy, a gang known as the Shades kidnap children, splice them with animal DNA, and kill their parents. Animals have been extinct for hundreds of years, and the splicing procedure was outlawed months a go.
After a Fravashi conscript is sent undercover to infiltrate the gang, questions arise.
What exactly are the Shades planning?
Is it furry related?
There are no anthros, but the main character has a tail and it does deal with people who act like animals.
What's it really about?
I can't elaborate past what I already wrote without spoiling it.
Is it a good read?
LOL well I wrote it, so I'm biased. But I'd say it's pretty average. The small group of people I let read it before it was published all said they liked it.
On the lulu.com site, under the picture of the cover there is a link that says "preview". Read the preview to make sure you like my writing style and/or the setting.
Who did the cover art?
I designed the cover, but the original art is from a very talented artist right here on dA: [link]
The original piece was this: [link]
(as an aside, yes he gave me permission to do what I did)
Anything else I should know?
There is a transgender character, and I make $1 off every book sale, no matter what type of book you buy (paperback or ebook). So buy whichever you feel comfortable with.
Also, the book is about my character, Quatre Bornes (though slightly modified).
In my defense, writing a book about him was the plan all along, so I don't really consider it a self-insert.
But hey, that's just me. The book took so long I started using the name for screennames. So sue me.
(I've been casually working on something like this since 2004).
Can I buy your book off [website that is not lulu.com]?
I'm in the process of trying to get the paperback on amazon.com, but that takes months. Also the end price is more expensive than lulu. Lulu is a good site.
As far as ebooks going to other stores (like Nook and apple books) I have the ability to do that but at the moment I do not think it's worth it. And again, the price would be more expensive (for you). I think $2.10 is already pretty steep for an ebook, don't you?
I don't want to buy your book / your writing is crap / etc., etc.
Nobody said you had to buy! I do not think I'm the best writer ever.
It has just always been on my bucket list to publish a book. This is self-published. I have no delusions of grandeur, here.
Will you write a sequel?
I doubt this is something that will be asked here, but a couple people irl have asked me this.
I've decided if I make at least $100 I will write a sequel. Otherwise, I probably will not continue writing.
Writing is something I like doing, but lacking sales I don't think it's worth my time to concentrate on more books.
